Premiering on March 8, Check, Please! Northwest will showcase the Northwest's vibrant food scene
SEATTLE: From the early days of Pike Place Market and the emergence of passionate restaurateurs like Ivar Haglund, Tom Douglas and Ethan Stowell, the Pacific Northwest has been a region in a love affair with its food. On March 8, area residents will have a new avenue for sharing and celebrating its favorite restaurants and bars -- Check, Please! Northwest.
Nearing its 50th anniversary, the Space Needle has long been recognized by visitors and locals alike as an entry point to exploring what Seattle has to offer. SkyCity at the Needle, the landmark tower’s award-winning restaurant, will now take center stage as the backdrop for Check, Please! Northwest.
“We’re proud that both SkyCity and the Space Needle can support KCTS 9 and bring this new programming to Seattle,” said Ron Sevart, president and CEO of the Space Needle. “As a member of the local restaurant community, we look forward to the exploration, discussion and pride this show will further among local restaurateurs and locals alike.”
Each week Check, Please! Northwest, a half-hour long program airing on KCTS 9, will center around three passionate locals who will share their favorite food experience – be it a dive bar or five star establishment. After anonymously visiting each other's picks, participants will gather with host Amy Pennington to discuss, dispute, and celebrate their dining experiences. Amy, a Seattle-based author, gardener and cook who has been immersed in Seattle's restaurant scene for nearly 15 years, will guide each week’s featured reviewers through their experiences.
“Check, Please! takes all of the passionate conversations we have about our favorite places, elevates them to prime time and expands the audience,” explained Amy. "Allowing this avenue to talk about food with and for locals who dine out every day is the perfect way to celebrate experiences and the bounty of food that is unique to Seattle - our dining scene rocks!"
Already an award-winning PBS series in five other markets, Check, Please! Northwest will air Thursdays locally on KCTS 9 at 7 p.m. The show is being presented locally through a collaboration by KCTS 9 and the Space Needle.
Since announcing its Seattle debut back in November, KCTS has received more than 150 applications from excited locals ready to discuss their favorite restaurant. Visit KCTS.org to share yours.
